Explore our inclusive training methods
5,000 miles from the UK, in a shipping container gym with second-hand hotel equipment just after a series of severe earthquakes, I ran a 60-minute session that delivered more equity in sport than most fully-funded community facilities back home.
That sentence alone should worry anyone working in UK sport or physical activity delivery.
The Real Problem? Poor Standards and a Lack of Accountability
Every year, data shows the same trend:
🚫 Inactivity rises
🚫 Health gaps widen
🚫 Disadvantaged groups fall further behind
Despite billions in funding, community sport is simply not meeting the delivery standard needed to close these gaps.
What’s worse? The solutions being rolled out are still built around low-level chair exercises, tick-box inclusivity, and “bums on seats” metrics that reward presence, not progress.

The Move Mojo® Model in Action – Pacific Edition 🇵🇫
This wasn’t just theory. On the ground in the Pacific, I ran a 60-minute coach development session that left behind a sustainable, inclusive solution built on three key principles:
1️⃣ Constraints-Led Approach
We trained coaches to modify:
- The task
- The environment
- The individual’s role
…so that everyone could participate, regardless of impairment, experience, or equipment.
🧠 Real inclusion doesn’t mean a different session—it means adapting the same one.
2️⃣ Person-Centred Coaching
No clingy 2kg resistance bands.
No defaulting to seated marching.
Instead, we used the principle of training the person, not the disability. That means every athlete was:
- Challenged at their own level
- Pushed physically
- Building real physical qualities (like strength, balance, and power)
And it worked—without needing extra resources or expensive kit.
💡 See how we teach this in our regulated Adaptive Exercise Qualification
3️⃣ Real Coaching, Not Tick-Box Inclusion
Great coaches adapt in real time.
They don’t panic when a drill isn’t working—they adjust.
We focused on:
- Reading the room
- Spotting where exclusion was creeping in
- Making quick, evidence-led tweaks
…so that para-athletes and non-disabled athletes could train side-by-side in the same session with individualised adaptations—without compromising intensity.
The Outcome? One Session. Shared Success. Zero Barriers.
Here’s what happened in 60 minutes:
✅ Coaches ran mixed-ability strength sessions
✅ Every athlete was pushed to their own threshold
✅ Everyone followed the same structure with unique adaptations
✅ Nobody was sidelined, patronised, or separated
If it can happen in a shipping container gym with no budget, why isn’t this happening in UK gyms, schools, and sports clubs?
We Need to Raise the Bar—Nationwide
This is what Move Mojo® stands for.
🔺 We train coaches and organisations to raise delivery standards.
🔺 We remove the fluff and replace it with real coaching skill.
🔺 We build movement equity into the foundation of community sport.
We’ve done it across Olympic and Paralympic pathways, in SEND schools, and in low-resource environments.
Now we want to see this everywhere—every local gym, every council-run centre, every school PE department, and every community coach.

This is how we move the needle—not by throwing more money at broken systems, but by teaching better ways to coach.
Movement is for everyone. But equity is earned through action.
